I’ve noticed the growing trend of dollers who only doll characters from their RPs. I’ve never been into RPs, so it’s kind of irritating. It also makes the dollers only doll the SAME.THING.OVER.AND.OVER. Because of this, you won’t learn to doll anything else, and if you try to create something new, then it’ll probably look like utter shit. I’ve had people tell me that dolling them helps you do x, but if you’re just dolling the same thing, you’re learning to do that particular subject, not whatever you’re trying to learn. One of the things that helps you learn a new artistic concept is the ability to apply it to a wide range of subjects, which is the opposite of dolling only RP characters.
Plus, repetition gets boring quickly. If you’re just going to doll the same thing, who cares any more? Try something new.

I just wanna comment on this. D8 I doll only my OCs because I have, literally, hundreds of them. I’m writing a novel involving them and I like doing art of them.
It doesn’t have to be repetitive (except for the 3432421 portraits I’m doing but uh..). Like, they can be dolled in different situations, clothing, eras, etc, etc. Granted, a lot of people don’t like dolling scenes or overly complex things so…
On another note, sometimes OCs are the only thing that inspire someone. I hardly get inspired to do anything else anymore because… well, I don’t really know. Dolling is a hobby to most people, and thus, people will doll what they find fun and inspiring.
I like to think that other things I make aren’t complete and utter shit. >u>; Anyway, I just wanted to put my two cents in.
Though I’ve never felt the need to doll the same doll over and over again, I can fully understand the wish to doll the same doll or character on a different base in a different style. And most people add something to their doll.
Also, I consider that dollers who doll their OC just really love doing that, and may not have any interest in progressing. Dolling after all is a hobby, a way to pass time, for a lot of people. These dollers either leave dolling once they don’t have time to RP anymore or they leave RP and become more regular dollers.
Long story short: hurray for diversity and acceptance in the dolling community!
